Engraving and Copying
Music Engraving and Copying is the art of making clean, legible, attractive and accurate sheet music. Final products include sheet music, lead sheets, rhythm charts, ensemble/orchestra scores and separate parts just for starters. Delivery is in the form of:
- printable pdfs
- notation format of choice (Sibelius, Finale)
- printed music.
Starting with existing material/music, we create beautiful sheet music from:
- takedowns (transcriptions from a music file, youtube video, or MIDI/DAW file, etc.)
- pre-existing sheet music (handwritten scores, music from web sheet music providers (sheetmusicplus.com)
- notation program scores (from all versions of Finale, Sibelius, Logic).
Transcription and Takedowns
LA Music Prep does countless transcriptions and takedowns. All we need from you is a music file, youtube video, or MIDI/DAW file. From that, you receive engraved sheet music in any format included in our Music Engraving Service. Transposition
Artist frequently send in sheet music or audio files, but need the music in a different key. This is a common request we deal with daily, so no problem. Whether it’s a simple lead sheet or a full orchestra score, transposition to another key is done cleanly and accurately represented.
Orchestration
Jack Majdecki does the orchestrating and arranging for LA Music Prep. Jack was a pupil of Lyle “Spud” Murphy and his famous Equal Interval System (EIS). Delivery is clean, legible and ready for use for live performance, studio recording or academic use. Starting from the composer’s lead sheet, short score or MIDI mockup, we make orchestrations for:
- full orchestra
- string quartet
- wind and brass ensemble of any size
- jazz combo and big band
- pop and rock combo
- piano accompaniment
- your custom ensemble?

MIDI and Audio Mockups
Using logic Pro X DAW software, we will deliver an audio mockup version of your sheet music, orchestration, etc. We use industry standard sample instruments, loops, live guitar recordings and effects software to render a version your music you can use for rehearsal, demo, etc. Delivery is in the form of an mp3, aiff or wav file. Audio stems are available as well for recording software.
